Double-Take is about keeping availability simple. Independent of application or hardware. There’s a production server we can call source that replicates changes at the byte level to a redundant server we call target. In event of individual server failure or site failure, we failover and our users remain productive on our target. When we’re ready to failback, we kick-of the restore to either original or new hardware, while our users remain on-line and working on our DR server. Once a restore is completed, we maintain the changes users create with replication, so you remain in control for when you want to switch them over to original production infrastructure. Failover and Failback will work over Lan or Wan – what are your requirements ?

Capture beneath the Application ensures data integrity and application independence. Capture above the hardware layer, ensures no dependency on current or future hardware infrastructure to facilitate Application Availability, Disaster Recovery or real‐time migration or backup. True, byte-level transactional replication.

Double-Take unique technology allows it to be truly hardware or hyper-visor or application independent. We achieve this by replicating data drives in a one to one fashion, to a pre-installed operating system of the same family with Double-Take. When failover occurs, we merge the system state of the bare OS, and apply only the software registry, leaving the hardware keys as is. It is just like restoring from backup, and rebooting a server, only the backup and the data is already on the target server, so the process is much quicker !

Many organization leverage virtualization for production. Almost every organization today leverages virtualization cloud either private or external for recoverability due to capability to scale resourceson demand as they’re needed rather than paying for them up-front. Because of this, Double-Take is aware that most of the recoveries will be done to a virtual environment, and will inject the drives required for a virtual environment, and provides capability to auto-provision machines at failover automatically.

Virtual server technologies provide businesses and IT departments with the ability to do more with less, enabling the consolidation of data and applications onto a single server. The result is reduced costs, simplified IT management, and minimized space requirements. The need to protect these virtualized systems is paramount as they are running multiple business-critical applications, requiring a higher level of protection. Double-Take is able to replicate at the host level of hyper-V as the virtual machines are files like any other.
